Wessex Water inlet tank repair and refurbishment
THE CHALLENGE
A 6 x 6 x 6 meter main sewerage inlet tank was in need of major refurbishment, after damage caused from long term exposure to high levels of H²S, which, combined with its close proximity to the sea resulted in extensive spooling and substrate losses of over 100 mm in places.
OUR SOLUTION
Ultimate Coatings Limited was asked to provide a fast guaranteed solution for this project where time was a major factor due to high over pumping costs from the high flow rates.
The tank was high pressure water jetted (16,000-20,000) psi to remove the degraded concrete and repose the corroded re-bar.
New re-bar was overlaid due to extensive corrosion and then 100-120 mm of fast curing sprayed applied concrete was applied (14 tonnes) to reinstate the extensive substrate loss over the past 60 years.
After concrete application the newly applied substrate was prepared for coating application just 12 hours after installation.
A 6 mm application of Ultracoat pure epoxy coating was applied to the tank walls in just 8 hours and inspected the following day ready to be put back in service in just 10 days from start to finish.
